Hestur - Klæmintsgjógv world largest sea cave
Gamlarætt ferryport, 175 Gamlarætt
English
Klæmintsgjógv, located on the rugged western coastline of Hestur Island, is home to some of the most dramatic sea cliffs, towering rock formations, and hidden reefs you can find in the Faroe Islands.
Get ready for an unforgettable adventure as you visit the world’s largest sea cave on this exciting boat tour! You'll explore the pristine cliffs along Hestur’s west coast from the comfort of a boat, reaching one of the most remote corners of the Faroe Islands. Here, the only residents are seabirds, nesting high and low up on the cliffs.
From April through August, you’ll have the chance to spot puffins and other unique seabirds nesting along the towering rock faces. If conditions are right, your guide will take you through both large and small sea caves. The crown jewel of this tour is the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sail into Klæmintsgjógv itself, the largest sea cave on the planet.
This boat trip offers a rare opportunity to experience the lesser-known wonders of the Faroe Islands, taking you all the way around Hestur Island. You’ll have the chance to observe seabirds up close and even see sheep grazing high up on the cliffs, some 1,200 feet above the ocean.
The journey starts from the ferry terminal at Gamlarætt, only 15 minutes southwest of Tórshavn, where you’ll board a high-speed rib boat for a thrilling ride. Your captain, a local expert, will ensure your safety as you navigate through the impressive landscapes of the Faroe Islands.
In just a few minutes, you’ll cross from Streymoy Island to Hestur, feeling the rush of the open sea as you approach the island’s western coast. Here, you can sit back and take in the raw, untamed beauty that makes the Faroe Islands so unique.
Built to endure the challenging waters of the archipelago, the boat is perfect for this type of exploration. As you move along the coastline, you’ll see striking basalt columns rising dramatically from the sea and get the perfect opportunity to witness the seasonal nesting of seabirds.
This tour is highly recommended by thousands of previous visitors and offers a rare glimpse into the largest sea cave in the world, set against one of the most awe-inspiring natural landscapes in the Faroe Islands.
