Day trip - Koltur open boat shuttle
Visit the breathtaking farmer island of Koltur during the summer months in the Faroe Islands. Our open shuttle boat takes you from Streymoy, across Hestfjørð to Koltur. On the trip you'll see seabirds such as puffins. You'll board the boat at the port of Gamlarætt on the island of Streymoy. The boat trip from Gamlarætt to Koltur takes approximately 20 minutes. As we approach Koltur, you will begin to see the ancient settlement of Heima í Húsi on the almost untouched island. This is just a warm-up for what you'll experience later. Included in your ticket price is access to the ancient buildings of Heima í Húsi. This means that you have paid in advance for admission to these historic old houses. Important to know for the 2025 season. Once you're safely ashore, head towards the stairs leading up from the quay. At the foot of the stairs, you will find a tub of antiseptic liquid to rinse off your shoes. This is to prevent us from bringing unwanted insects or infections to the island. When you disembark at Koltur, you will spend 4 hours on the island. When you get off the boat, move your body from the boat to the dock. This can be the most challenging part of the whole trip.  Just make sure you are in good physical condition to get off the boat. During your hours on Koltur, you'll have time for both a hike and a visit to the cozy ancient house Heima í Húsi. It's always a good idea to bring a small, packed lunch, a thermos of coffee and a bottle of water. Only one man lives on Koltur. His job is to look after and maintain all the old houses on the island. So here you have plenty of space to relax and get away from the stresses of everyday life. This shuttle boat departs at 10:30 AM from Gamlarætt marina. Your certified captain will ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable boat trip.   The boat trip takes place in a boat with space for 12 people. You will be seated comfortably as you sail between Streymoy and Koltur. This ticket grants you access to a very special and historic island in the Faroe Islands. Koltur is a very popular summer attraction in the Faroe Islands for good reason. On Koltur you will be struck with awe in a way that very few other places on earth allow. This is your chance to experience Koltur. An island that was first touched by humans around the 800s. The first settlements on the island date back to the Viking Age when the Vikings chose to settle on Koltur.   Take the opportunity and visit the untouched Viking island.   Check availability by selecting a date. The tour is not suitable for children under 7 years old, pregnant women or people with back problems. Time: approx 4 Hours Difficulty: Medium

Hestur - Klæmintsgjógv world largest sea cave
Klæmintsgjógv, located on the rugged western coastline of Hestur Island, is home to some of the most dramatic sea cliffs, towering rock formations, and hidden reefs you can find in the Faroe Islands. Get ready for an unforgettable adventure as you visit the world’s largest sea cave on this exciting boat tour! You'll explore the pristine cliffs along Hestur’s west coast from the comfort of a boat, reaching one of the most remote corners of the Faroe Islands. Here, the only residents are seabirds, nesting high and low up on the cliffs. From April through August, you’ll have the chance to spot puffins and other unique seabirds nesting along the towering rock faces. If conditions are right, your guide will take you through both large and small sea caves. The crown jewel of this tour is the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sail into Klæmintsgjógv itself, the largest sea cave on the planet. This boat trip offers a rare opportunity to experience the lesser-known wonders of the Faroe Islands, taking you all the way around Hestur Island. You’ll have the chance to observe seabirds up close and even see sheep grazing high up on the cliffs, some 1,200 feet above the ocean. The journey starts from the ferry terminal at Gamlarætt, only 15 minutes southwest of Tórshavn, where you’ll board a high-speed rib boat for a thrilling ride. Your captain, a local expert, will ensure your safety as you navigate through the impressive landscapes of the Faroe Islands. In just a few minutes, you’ll cross from Streymoy Island to Hestur, feeling the rush of the open sea as you approach the island’s western coast. Here, you can sit back and take in the raw, untamed beauty that makes the Faroe Islands so unique. Built to endure the challenging waters of the archipelago, the boat is perfect for this type of exploration. As you move along the coastline, you’ll see striking basalt columns rising dramatically from the sea and get the perfect opportunity to witness the seasonal nesting of seabirds. This tour is highly recommended by thousands of previous visitors and offers a rare glimpse into the largest sea cave in the world, set against one of the most awe-inspiring natural landscapes in the Faroe Islands. The Gamlarætt ferry port is just a fifteen-minute drive southwest from the capital. If you're unsure how to find your way, enter “Gamlarætt ferry port” into your GPS and it will guide you safely. There is parking to the right of the ferry port at Gamlarætt harbor. You can also take the bus from Tórshavn to the meeting point. If you choose the blue bus, it's bus number 650. Tell the driver to drop you off at RIB62 on Gamlarætt. If you choose the red city buses, which are free to ride, then get on bus number 5.
